Sun Safety at Camp: What We Do & How You Can Help ☀️

With the sunny days rolling in (fingers crossed it stays that way! 🤞), we’re getting ready for an exciting May Half Term Camp full of outdoor adventures, games, and happy, active children. But while we love the sunshine, we know it comes with responsibility — especially when it comes to keeping your children safe in the sun.

Here’s how we make sun safety a top priority at Educamps, and a few ways you can help too!

🧴 Our Sun-Safe Practices at Camp

1. Scheduled Sunscreen Breaks

We encourage kids to apply sunscreen throughout the day, especially before high-exposure activities. Our leaders remind children to reapply after lunch or water-based play.

Surrounded by nature, they’re focused and full of joy as they bring their colourful artwork to life — a perfect sunny day of fun, creativity, and friendship at our summer camp for kids.

2. Shady Chill Zones

Three happy girls leaning on a shaded balcony at Educamps, laughing together as one proudly shows off the colourful slime she made during a summer craft activity. Sheltered from the sun but still soaking in the vibrant camp atmosphere, they’re enjoying a perfect mix of creativity, friendship, and fun at our kids’ summer camp.

We make use of natural and created shade throughout the day, offering cool-down zones and shaded areas for breaks, snacks, and group chats.

3. Hats On, Sun Smart!

Our leaders always remind kids to wear hats during peak sun hours. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference in protecting their heads, faces, and eyes.

A cheerful boy leans over a wooden park bridge at Educamps, laughing in the sunshine with pure summer joy. Wearing a sun-protective hat and a bold Minecraft t-shirt, he’s fully immersed in the outdoors — soaking up the fun, fresh air, and freedom of our kids’ activity-filled summer camp.

4. Hydration Stations

Laughter fills the air as they enjoy fun, refreshing activities that keep them active, safe, and smiling all day long.

Every child is encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle, and we schedule plenty of water/ toilet breaks to make sure everyone stays cool and hydrated.

5. Weather-Responsive Planning

On particularly hot days, we adjust our activity schedule to avoid strenuous games at peak temperatures, making room for shady crafts, water fun, or earlier rest breaks.

Surrounded by nature, they’re enjoying a peaceful break from the summer sun after a morning full of fun activities and outdoor adventures.

👪 What You Can Do:

✔️ Pack Sunscreen

Please apply sunscreen before your child arrives at camp and pack it in their bag for reapplication later in the day. Label it so it doesn’t go missing!

✔️ Include a Hat & Sunglasses

Wide-brimmed hats or caps work best. Bonus points for sending along kid-safe sunglasses too.

✔️ Dress for Sun Safety

Lightweight long-sleeved shirts or UV-protective clothing are a great way to protect your child’s skin while keeping them cool.

✔️ Send a Refillable Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is crucial in the sun. A labelled bottle means no mix-ups and regular refills throughout the day.

🌞 A Safe & Sunny Adventure Awaits!

At Educamps, we’re all about helping kids have the best possible experience while keeping their health and safety front and centre. With your support at home and our attentive care on site, we’ll make sure your child enjoys every sun-soaked moment — safely!

See you at camp! 😎🌳
